Having only joined Southampton last summer, the Saints are already lining up Waasland-Beveren full back Laurent Jans as Cuco Martina’s replacement in January, report The Mirror.

According to the story, former Saints boss Ronald Koeman wants Martina at Goodison Park with Claude Puel interested in £1 million Jans as his ideal successor.

While Southampton fans may have thought Jans may have been a replacement for Cedric Soares who has been attracting interest from Barcelona, this latest story suggests it could indeed be Martina making way.

Jans is a 24-year-old Luxembourg international who has won 29 caps to date and only costing £1 million, the outlay would be small for a man who would compete with Cedric Soares and Jeremy Pied with all right backs fit.

Summer recruit Pied saw his debut season ended early when suffering a long-term injury back in August so Martina has been filling in for Cedric recently.

While Southampton have been interested in Jans for the past few weeks, they still face competition for the defender’s signature with Aston Villa and Huddersfield Town also interested in the Luxembourger.
