Sky Sports News chief football reporter Nick Collins is facing redundancy as part of a cost cutting package by the broadcaster.

According to the well connected Charles Sale in the Daily Mail, Collins won’t be at the Gareth Southgate media conference to announce the new England manager.

Having paid out a mouth watering £11m per game to retain their grip on Premier League football Sky are reviewing costs across the board with the dedicated team on Sky Sports under threat.

Rather than have their own familiar faces covering events- with the moustachioed Collins a fixture at all England internationals- Sky Sports News will just pick up on coverage provided by their main channel reporters.

Alongside Collins respected rugby reporter Phil Edwards, Midlands reporter Pete Colley and Tim Abraham are facing redundancy.

Cricket reporter Abraham was recalled from England’s tour of India.

Live Premier League football has been the backbone of Sky’s success but as the price goes up for match coverage it seems that the familiar faces beside the stories could be paying the price for their success.
