Charlie Nicholas has warned Arsene Wenger that there are no more excuses for not delivering the Premier League title.

In an interview with The Mirror the former Arsenal and Celtic striker lays it on the line about the expectations, and frustrations, of the Gunners support.

Since 2004 Arsenal fans have looked on as their side has slipped out of title contention with Leicester City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City have lifted the title over the last four years.

After moving from Highbury to The Emirates and breaking the wage structure to bring in stars like Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil Nicholas believes that it’s time for his old club to deliver on the pitch.

The ingredients are there, but Arsenal are running out of excuses to turn them into a formula for winning the major trophies,” the Sky Sports pundit said. “There is no reason why they can’t do it.

They are looking at tying down Ozil and Sanchez on long contracts, which is massively important, and that would be a big statement of intent but there is no reason why Arsenal can’t pay top dollar for their best players now because the Emirates Stadium is paid-for and they are not so constrained by finance.

It’s time for the players to deliver – if they don’t, they will come under pressure from the fans and so, I’m afraid, will the manager.”
