Having been heavily linked with an Aston Villa transfer of late, Dundalk midfielder Daryl Horgan has dampened the Villans’ hopes by calling out Newcastle United’s interest, report the Birmingham Mail.

The Magpies have also scouted the 24-year-old recently and while Horgan played down the current speculation over his future, he recently claimed he’d consider an offer from Newcastle United.

Horgan claimed: “I don’t know, really. To be honest with you, I try to stay out of it as much as I possibly can.

“I’m a Dundalk layer, I’m very happy at Dundalk, but as I said, if an offer does come in from somewhere, I’d have to consider it, especially something like a massive club like Newcastle.”

While Aston Villa fans also have good reason to believe they’re the biggest club in the Football League alongside Newcastle United, the fact Horgan has mentioned the Magpies does sound like a come-and-get-me plea.

Called up to the Republic of Ireland international side by Martin O’Neill for the very first time lately, Horgan is currently riding the crest of a wave having also represented Dundalk in the Europa League for the first time this season.
