While the winter transfer window is only two months’ away, Jordan Lukaku has already been earmarked by Southampton as a summer target for Claude Puel, report HITC.
According to Italian source Il Messaggero, the 22-year-old brother of Romelu Lukaku is already in the Saints’ sights despite only signing for Lazio earlier this July.
Limited to only four appearances for the Stadio Olimpico side due to injury troubles this season, Lukaku has impressed so far and continues to be a part of Roberto Martinez’s Belgian national side.
While the report refrains from stating how much Southampton intend to spend on Lukaku in the summer, Premier League rivals Tottenham were rumoured to be eyeing a £10 million deal for the defender last month.
Having only joined the Serie A side earlier this year however, not to mention the fact he’s impressed so far, we can imagine a bid of £10 million will be deemed derisory by Simone Inzaghi’s side.
With Lukaku being a left back by trade, it’s true that Southampton boast plenty of options in that position when all of Ryan Bertrand, Matt Targett and Sam McQueen are fit however.
