Recently making his senior debut for Tottenham in the EFL Cup against Gillingham, West Ham United’s Reece Oxford has claimed Marcus Edwards is one of the best he’s played with, report the London Evening Standard.

Team-mates during Oxford’s spell at Spurs’ academy before joining the Hammers’ youth ranks in 2011, there is no doubting 17-year-old Edwards’ potential.

Speaking to Squawka, Oxford claimed: “I’ve said this before – Marcus Edwards. My age – he’s probably one of the best players I’ve played with.”

There is certainly a large furore around the talent of Edwards who is a right winger by trade and Mauricio Pochettino has even likened the young Londoner to none other than Lionel Messi.

Given the competition for places in wide areas at White Hart Lane in a fantastic start to the season by Spurs, Edwards even has the likes of Harry Winks and Josh Onomah to compete with.

Nevertheless, the London Evening Standard’s report claims that Edwards could next see action in the fourth round of the EFL Cup with Pochettino having suggested he could name a youthful squad for the game at Liverpool.
