He’s enjoyed a promising start to his Southampton career but it’s been revealed Nathan Redmond was urged to make a European transfer in the summer, report Squawka.

The 22-year-old recently claimed that England Under-21 international colleague Nathaniel Chalobah had urged him to continue his education abroad after a positive experience in Serie A with Napoli last term.

Speaking to The Sun, Redmond claimed: “Nathaniel told me it was the best year he had enjoyed in his career.

“He learned so much about Italian tactics and their lifestyle. After six months out there he came back speaking near-enough fluent Italian.”

However, having conspired to sign for Saints for £10 million back in June, Redmond has flourished playing as a striker alongside Charlie Austin under Claude Puel.

Boasting three goals to his name already this term, it would appear staying under the watchful eye of England chiefs was within the former Norwich City forwards’ thinking when signing at St. Mary’s Stadium.

Still yet to achieve a senior cap with the Three Lions, Redmond appears on course if he continues developing at his current rate where he’s benefiting from playing week in, week out.
