He received his first senior international call-up to the England squad against Malta and now, Burnley’s Michael Keane has emerged as a surprise January target for Liverpool, report The Mirror.

A former Manchester United player of course, Sky Sports’ Football Whispers have shortlisted the 23-year-old as a viable candidate for Jurgen Klopp’s side in the New Year.

With Mamadou Sakho currently banished from the first team following his indiscipline in the Reds’ pre-season campaign, you’d imagine there is room for another centre back at Anfield.

As for Keane himself, the 6 ft 3 in defender earned a reputation as one of the best centre halves in the Championship last season and has been steady for Sean Dyche’s side in the Premier League this campaign.

With Chelsea also reported to be interested in landing Michael Keane as a potential long-term successor to John Terry late last month, that report outlined a fee of £25 million which seems extremely large for a player of Keane’s relative inexperience.
