Arsenal star never poised to exit Gunners this summer

He’s enjoyed an electric start to the 2016/17 campaign and now, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted he was never tempted to sell Theo Walcott in the summer, report talkSPORT.

Enduring a forgettable 2015/16 campaign, Walcott spent long spells out injured and didn’t capitalise on chances he was afforded, ultimately resulting in him missing out on Roy Hodgson’s England squad for Euro 2016.

However, when doubts were swirling around about his future, Wenger was never going to sell claiming: “Look I didn’t speak to anybody because I was not ready to let him go – I always wanted to keep him.”

The Gunners are currently reaping the benefits of Wenger’s decision to retain Walcott with the 27-year-old currently leading Arsenal’s goalscoring charts.

Registering a brace against Swansea City in a 3-2 victory for the Gunners on Saturday, these strikes took Walcott’s haul to seven across all competitions.

One of the clubs originally interested in Walcott – West Ham United – might be wishing they had better luck in their transfer pursuit with the former Southampton man looking reborn judging by his current form.
