He was a last gasp £30 million Deadline Day arrival for Tottenham Hotspur but Moussa Sissoko has now revealed his true motivations behind snubbing Everton, report The Guardian.

Speaking to the publication, the French international claimed Champions League football was a huge motivating factor behind joining Mauricio Pochettino’s side over the Toffees.

Sissoko claimed: “I played a lot of games – Europa League, World Cup, Euro 2016 – but I wanted to play Champions League.

“So, when Tottenham came, I said: ‘Yes.’ Now, I need to work hard and be at 100% as soon as possible.”

Making his first ever Champions League appearance from the substitutes’ bench in Tottenham’s 1-2 defeat to Monaco at Wembley this week, it remains to be seen what role Pochettino will cast him in going forward.

Also appearing from the bench in Spurs’ 0-4 demolition of Stoke City last weekend, Sissoko is not only capable of playing in central midfield but also on the right flank to boot.

With Mousa Dembele, Eric Dier and Dele Alli representing Sissoko’s competition in central midfield, the former Newcastle United man could play from the right as showcased at Euro 2016 where he was particularly impressive.

Further endearing himself to the Spurs faithful, Sissoko also made the assumption that Everton aren’t a big team.

Sissoko continued: “I said in the past that I wanted to move to join a big team.

“I had the chance to come here [to Tottenham]. I am very happy and very proud to be here.”
