…. Unless it’s the signing of the guy who’s on course to be the competition’s top goal-scorer and is one of the finest players on the continent at the present time. Griezmann is a formidable and phenomenal football player and it’s truly frightening to imagine him lining up in club colours alongside his international partner Giroud.

This, like an effort to sign Pogba, would require a wholescale change of tone and style and level of ambition from The Gunners, but you get to thinking that it has to happen sometime. The player himself was caught, during some downtime, running the club at Football Manager; it means nothing in itself, but you wouldn’t catch me running Chelsea! The idea of moving to the Gunners is clearly not something he’s closed off to. Would the club have the ambition? That’s the other question, but you get the feeling they have to cop for a name like this eventually.

Griezmann is a no-risk signing; that’s what makes it most frustrating. He’s a fantastic player who’s worked his way through the game by hard work and brilliance on the ball. His chipped goal against Iceland sealed the public perception of him as one of the hottest footballers in Europe right now, a reputation that’s only going to grow.

Someone will make a huge move for him. No other signing – not even Pogba – would so completely transform the Arsenal fans hopes for the season ahead.
