Mats Hummels

According to The Daily Mail, Manchester United are targeting Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly ahead of the summer transfer window; whilst The Metro report that Chelsea have made an approach to sign Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels.

The Senegal international has been in good form this season, averaging 2.5 tackles, 2.5 interceptions and 2.8 successful aerial duels per match to help Maurizio Sarri’s side record the second-best goals conceded record throughout Serie A.

Agent Bruno Satin has been invited to discuss an improved contract for the 24-year-old but he also wants to discover what kind of fee would convince Napoli to sell during the summer transfer window, with not only Manchester United but also Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich ‘making checks’ on the 6 foot 2 centre-half.

The Red Devils are expected to target a long-term partner to Chris Smalling in the coming transfer window, with utility man Daley Blind filling the void this season, and Koulibaly would seem to fit the bill.

Meanwhile, The Metro – who cite reports from German publication Sport Bild – claim Chelsea have made an approach for Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels ahead of a potential summer transfer.

The 27-year-old is widely deemed one of the top centre-halves in world football, having won the Bundesliga twice with the Black-Yellows and lifted the World Cup with Germany in 2014, and represents an ideal replacement for departing captain John Terry – whose contract is yet to be renewed past the end of the season.

The 6 foot 3 centre-back has resisted transfer interest from the Premier League before, most particularly from Manchester United. But with his contract verging upon its final twelve months, a Dortmund departure could finally take place in this summer.
