According to reports from The Express, Manchester City and Manchester United are set to enter a bidding war over Torino defender Nikola Maksimovic ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Serbian international has been compared to compatriot and former Manchester United centre-half Nemanja Vidic for his thuggish, no-nonsense style of defending and was attracting heavy interest from Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the January transfer window.

But according to The Express, who cite reports from Italian publication La Stampa, Premier League rivals Manchester City and Manchester United are set to scrap it out for the 24-year-old’s services during the summer transfer window.

Since returning from injury at the start of 2016, the 6 foot 4 centre-half has been in good form for Torino this term, averaging 2.4 tackles, 3.2 clearances and 4.1 interceptions per match – the second-most of any player throughout the Italian top flight.

Torino, who are currently 13th in Serie A, reportedly rate Maksimovic at around £20million.
