Alex Song

According to Calcio Mercato, Liverpool have seen a €6million transfer bid for Leandro Paredes rejected by Roma; whilst Mirror Football report that West Ham are unlikely to sign Alex Song on a permanent transfer.

The Argentine ace has thoroughly impressed on loan at Empoli this season, averaging 2.6 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 1.8 shots and 1.2 created chances per match, and we first doucmented Liverpool’s interest – along with Manchester City’s – last month.

It was reported earlier this week that the Reds are ready to raid Roma for the 21-year-old amid financial troubles at the Stadio Olimpico and Calcio Mercato claim they’ve now launched a €6million transfer bid. However, Giallorossi have rejected the offer, valuing their ‘wonderkid’ at significantly higher – perhaps due to the fact his contract doesn’t expire until summer 2019.

Meanwhile, Mirror Football report that West Ham are unlikely to make Alex Song’s loan stay permanent during the summer transfer window.

The former Arsenal ace is serving his second season on loan in East London but has failed to replicate the impact he made under Sam Allardyce last term, partly due to injury problems. He’s registered just eight Premier League starts since Slaven Bilic took the helm and is now behind Mark Noble, Cheikhou Kouyate and Pedro Obiang in the pecking order.

A permanent transfer clause based on number of appearances was agreed with parent club Barcelona last summer but it now seems unlikely to be activated, suggesting the 28-year-old will return to the Nou Camp at the end of the season where his contract has another twelve months left to run.

However, Mirror Football speculate the Hammers could still try to sign the Cameroon enforcer at a lesser sum than previously agreed with the La Liga giants. Song’s winding down contract, coupled with a potential top four finish, could give West Ham the upper hand in negotiations.
