Marquinhos

According to reports from Squawka, Chelsea and Manchester United target Marquinhos has been talking up a potential transfer to the Premier League.

The Brazil international was deemed the most exciting defensive prospect in world football when the Parisians signed him from Roma at a cost of €31.4million in summer 2013 – back then a world-record fee for a teenager.

But the 21-year-old has found himself stuck behind countrymen Thiago Silva and David Luiz in the pecking order at Parc de Princes, issued just twelve Ligue 1 starts out of a possible 29 by manager Laurent Blanc this season.

Chelsea and Manchester United are both known admirers of the 6-foot centre-half, having allegedly launched bids around the £33million mark during the last three transfer windows, and were linked with his services again back in October.

And Marquinhos has made no secret of his admiration for the Premier League ahead of a transfer window in which the Blues and Red Devil are both expected to bolster their options at centre-back, suggesting a summer move could be on the cards.

Indeed, as quoted by Squawka, he told reporters in the build-up to PSG’s Champions League clash at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night; “The Premier League is the number one best league in the world. It’s a very competitive football. There are not weak teams at all.

“I just like the league itself but I haven’t got an English side that I follow closely. It’d be fantastic to have this opportunity [to play in England] one day, but now I’m focused on PSG.”
