Grzegorz Krychowiak

According to reports from The Sun, Arsenal and Manchester City are set to battle it out for Sevilla midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak during the summer transfer window.

The Gunners were chasing the Poland international last summer after lifting the Europa League title during his debut season at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan and appear to have sustained their interest – having reportedly considered a swoop during the January transfer window.

That’s in no small part due to the 26-year-old emerging as arguably the top enforcer in La Liga since the start of last season, this term averaging a division-best 4.8 interceptions per match alongside 2.4 tackles, 3.2 clearances and 3.2 successful aerial duels.

Arsenal’s engine room certainly requires an injection of the defensive awareness and physicality Krychowiak currently provides for Unai Emery’s side – especially with Bosman-bound veterans Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini set to leave the Emirates in the summer.

But according to The Sun, the north London outfit now face stiff competition for the former Rennes star’s signature from Premier League title rivals Manchester City. Incoming manager Pep Guardiola has been watching Krychowiak regularly throughout his spell as Bayern Munich boss.

Real Madrid and Juventus have also reportedly inquired into the midfielder, who Sevilla value at around £25million.
