Victor Wanyama

According to reports from Mirror Football, midfielder Victor Wanyama is stalling on a new contract at Southampton amid interest from Premier League rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Kenyan international has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most formidable enforcers since moving to St. Mary’s from Celtic in summer 2013, famed for his simple-yet-effective play-breaking style and imposing physicality.

The Saints have tabled a five-year contract extension, with his current terms set to expire at the end of next season, but Wanyama is reluctant to put pen to paper amid interest from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Lilywhites saw a bid for the 24-year-old rejected last summer and he’s hoping Mauricio Pochettino’s side will revive their interest at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Gunners gaffer Arsene Wenger is preparing a huge overhaul of his midfield options in coming transfer window, with Bosman-bound veterans Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky set to leave the club, and Wanyama is reportedly one of his top targets.

Southampton, however, are incredibly reluctant to let the 6 foot 2 midfielder enter the final twelve months of his contract, knowing it will force them to sell at a reduced fee.
