Alex Teixeira

According to reports from BBC Sport, Chelsea and Liverpool target Alex Teixeira has signed for Jiangsu Suning in a shock £38million transfer.

The attacking midfielder bagged 26 goals in as many appearances for Shakhtar Donetsk during the first half of the season and was subject to heavy interest from Chelsea and Liverpool during the January transfer window.

He’s been a regular fixture in the Blues’ rumour columns since October, whilst a Reds delegation that travelled to Florida last month saw a £24million bid rejected by the Ukranian outfit.

The English duo were expected to revive their interest in the summer, under the assumption that Shakhtar would lower their £38million valuation.

But reports emerged earlier this week that two Chinese Super League outfits – Jiangsu Suning and Guangzhou Evergrande – were prepared to meet the Brazilian’s asking price and it was revealed yesterday that the former club had seen a bid accepted.

According to BBC Sport, Teixeira has now completed a £38million move to Jiangsu, setting the third Chinese Super League record transfer fee in the space of just ten days.

Jiangsu, who are managed by former Blues defender Dan Petrescu, kicked off an incredible transfer window in China with a £25million swoop for Chelsea midfielder Ramires, whilst Guangzhou followed up earlier this week by acquiring Atletico Madrid striker Jackson Martinez in a £32.3million deal.

With the Chinese window not set to close until February 26th, we could see more high-profile footballers making the switch from Europe to the Super League over the next few weeks.
