Asmir Begovic

According to The Sun, Everton are targeting Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic for a summer transfer; whilst The Express report that Manchester United face Real Madrid in the race to sign Wolfsburg star Ricardo Rodriguez.

The 6 foot 6 shot-stopper moved to Stamford Bridge only last summer in a £8million transfer from Stoke City, drafted in as understudy to Thibaut Courtois. He hugely impressed during the Belgium international’s stint on the sidelines earlier this season, recording 26 saves in twelve appearances, but is said to have been left frustrated by Courtois immediately returning to the starting XI after regaining his fitness.

Everton are on the lookout for a replacement to long-term No.1 Tim Howard, who now seems almost certain to leave Goodison Park for the MLS at the end of the season, and the £8million-rated Bosnian international would certainly fit the bill, with 183 Premier League appearances already under his belt.

Meanwhile, The Express – who cite reports from the printed edition of German publication Sport Bild – claim Manchester United and Real Madrid are set to scrap it out for the services of Wolfsburg full-back Ricardo Rodriguez during the summer transfer window.

The Switzerland international has emerged as one of the most exciting attacking left-backs in Europe since signing from FC Zurich in January 2012, claiming 13 goals and 20 assists in his last 100 Bundesliga appearances, and was mentioned as a potential target for the Old Trafford outfit during the January transfer window.

United have been tipped to revive their interest in the 23-year-old, whose contract includes a £23million release clause, at the end of the season but reportedly face rather sizable competition from Real Madrid – who failed to find a replacement for now-Monaco left-back Fabio Coentrao last summer.

Rodriguez has hinted he’d be open to leaving the Volkswagen Arena at the end of the season, recently telling reporters; “Wolfsburg is a super club, and I’m still young. But I have a goal, as a football player, and that is to win titles regularly and be playing as a top, top club.”
