A Herrera

According to The Guardian, Liverpool have asked Aston Villa to terminate Tiago Ilori’s season-long loan; whilst The Daily Star report that Juventus are targeting Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera.

Liverpool were without first-choice centre-backs Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho for their 1-0 Capital One Cup win over Stoke City yesterday evening, whilst Dejan Lovren withdrew due to a hamstring injury after 34 minutes – leaving a gaping hole at the heart of the Reds’ backline.

Kolo Toure is now the only fully fit centre-half in Jurgen Klopp’s squad and The Guardian claim Liverpool are hoping to rectify the situation by recalling 22-year-old defender Tiago Ilori from his season-long loan at Aston Villa.

The £7million signing hasn’t registered a competitive appearance for Liverpool since moving to Merseyside from Sporting Lisbon in summer 2013 and despite the Villains languishing at the bottom of the Premier League table, he’s yet to feature for the Birmingham outfit this season.

Meanwhile, The Daily Star – who cite Spanish publication Fichajes – claim Serie A champions Juventus are targeting Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera, after sporting director Fabio Paratici and vice-president Pavel Nedved ran the rule over the Spaniard during the Red Devils’ 2-1 win over Swansea City last weekend.

He’s struggled to hold down a consistent role in Louis van Gaal’s starting Xi this season, issued just nine starts and lasting the full 90 minutes on only seven occasions, but the Dutchman is unlikely to sanction a departure this month.

The Daily Star speculate that will likely lead to a summer bid instead. United signed the 26-year-old from Athletico Bilbao eighteen months ago in a £29million deal.
