Ashley Cole

According to reports from Mirror Football, former Arsenal and Chelsea star Ashley Cole is set to join MLS outfit LA Galaxy.

During his 566-game career in English football, the left-back won three Premier League titles, a record seven FA Cups, a Capital One Cup, a Europa League title and a Champions League title – whilst amassing 107 caps for the England national team.

He left Stamford Bridge for Roma in summer 2014 but went on to register just 16 appearances across all competitions for Giallorossi. His last appearance was in March last year and he rejected the club’s attempts to cancel his contract at the start of the season.

LA Galaxy have now bought out the 34-year-old’s contract, however, ahead of a move to the MLS. But with Robbie Keane, Giovanni Dos Santos and former England team-mate Steven Gerrard already on their books, Cole will not arrive as a ‘Designated Player’ – meaning his salary won’t be paid by the league.

Instead, Roma will the majority of his wages until his Stadio Olimpico deal officially expires in the summer, at which point he’ll accept a lower salary from the MLS outfit.

LA Galaxy are also hoping to complete deals for former Manchester City star Nigel de Jong and Wolves defender Jelle van Damme.
