According to reports from The Daily Star, Liverpool are preparing a £18million bid for former Manchester United starlet Giuseppe Rossi.
The Italian striker joined the Old Trafford ranks from Parma in summer 2004 – during the same transfer window as Wayne Rooney and Gerard Pique – but made only 14 appearances across all competitions for the Red Devils, scoring four times, before being sold to Villarreal three years later.
The 28-year-old has gone on to prove himself as a dependable goalscorer, producing returns of 82 goals in 192 appearances for The Yellow Submarine and 19 in 36 for current employers Fiorentina, but his career has been blighted by injury to the extent that he’s made just 39 league appearances since the start of the 2011/12 season.
The Italy international may need to leave Viola to regain full fitness and The Daily Star surprisingly claim Liverpool are ready to offer him a return to the Premier League. Citing Italian outlet ItaSportPress, the tabloid allege that the Reds are preparing a £18million bid for the January transfer window.
The rumour seems a little wide of the mark, but doubts over Christian Benteke’s suitability to Jurgen Klopp’s style of play have emerged over the last few weeks and Rossi could be an effective replacement.
