Ben Chilwell

According to reports from The Telegraph, Liverpool are considering a £4million bid for Leicester City’s defensive prodigy Ben Chilwell.

The teenage left-back has established himself as a regular in the Huddersfield starting line-up since joining the Championship side on loan in November, going on to average 1.7 tackles, 2.1 interceptions and 2 successful dribbles per match from his seven league outings.

Arsenal have been courting the 18-year-old for some time and saw a £3.5million bid rejected by the Foxes last summer, whilst north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are also reportedly keen on the England U20.

But Liverpool were linked earlier this month with a view to a summer bid and The Telegraph claim Jurgen Klopp’s side are now considering a swoop in January instead as they search for added cover at left-back.

Alberto Moreno is currently their only fit No.3, with Joe Gomez set to be sidelined until the summer, Jon Flanagan still recovering from a long-term injury and ostracised Spaniard Jose Enrique still awaiting his first appearance of the season.

However, Leicester will be reluctant to relinquish Chilwell amid an injury crisis of their own. With Jeffrey Schlupp out of action until at least the end of January, they’re hoping to integrate the youngster into their first team when he returns from Huddersfield in the new year.
