According to reports from Izvestia via Goal, Manchester United management target Carlo Ancelotti has agreed to take over from Zenit St. Petersburg boss Andre Villas-Boas at the end of the season.

The Portuguese, best known to Premier League fans for his spells with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, has led Zenit to the Champions League’s Round of 16 this season after lifting the Premier League title with them last term.

But he has already announced his intentions to leave Petrovsky Stadium at the end of the campaign and Izvestia claim Carlo Ancelotti is set to succeed him, having agreed a two-year contract worth €32million in its entirety.

That, however, would appear to put a dent in Manchester United’s reported plans to appoint the Italian as Louis van Gaal’s successor at the end of next season, when the Dutchman’s contract expires.

One of the greatest managers of the modern era, the 56-year-old’s trophy cabinet includes a record three Champions League titles, a Premier League title, a Serie A title, a Ligue 1 title, an FA Cup, a Copa del Rey and a Coppa Italia.

Reports claim the Red Devils have already ‘sounded him out‘ regarding the opportunity of replacing the Iron Tulip in summer 2017.
