Calum Chambers

According to reports from Mirror Football, Everton are lining up Arsenal youngster Calum Chambers as a potential replacement for Chelsea and Manchester United target John Stones.

Although they managed to fend off interest in the England international during the summer, rejecting three bids from Premier League champions Chelsea, the Toffees are well aware that they will likely lose Stones at some point – especially if he performs to the best of his abilities at Euro 2016.

Indeed, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and even European champions Barcelona have been linked with the 6 foot 2 centre-half over the last few months, with the tabloids claiming the Toffees will be forced to sell if someone meets their £45million valuation.

According to Mirror Football, Roberto Martinez is already considering potential replacements for the in-demand 21-year-old, with Arsenal’s Calum Chambers high on his list.

Despite showing great promise during his first few months at the Emirates, the Southampton product now finds himself facing Hector Bellerin and Mathieu Debuchy in the battle for the Gunners’ right-back slot and behind Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel Paulista in the pecking order at centre-half.

Arsene Wenger has even suggested the 20-year-old’s future could lay in midfield as he struggles for regular game time – with just one Premier League start so far this season. But Martinez sees him more as a defender and will continue to monitor the England international’s situation in the hope that it could soon force a move away.
