Nemanja Vidic

According to reports from The Daily Star, Aston Villa or Everton could bring former Manchester United centre-back Nemanja Vidic back to the Premier League in January on a free transfer.

The Serbian international won five Premier League titles and the 2008 Champions League title during his eight seasons at Old Trafford, before leaving for Inter Milan on a free transfer in summer 2014.

He was a mainstay in the Nerazzurri back line last season, registering 28 appearances, but is yet to feature this term after undergoing surgery for a hernia in August.

Italian publication Corriere dello Sport claim Inter boss Roberto Mancini will terminate the 34-year-old’s contract next month, favouring Miranda and Jeison Murillo at the heart of his defence. They’ve played a vital role in the San Siro outfit claiming the best goals conceded record in Serie A this season – just nine in 16 games.

talkSPORT, meanwhile, allege that Aston Villa and Everton are both monitoring the situation. The Toffees were linked with Vidic last summer and are still in need of added depth at centre-half, whilst Aston Villa boss Remi Garde is on the lookout for any talent that can help the relegation-bound Birmingham outfit pull off arguably the greatest Premier League escape of all time.
