James Maddison

According to reports from The Independent, Arsenal and Liverpool are leading the race to sign Coventry City prodigy James Maddison.

The 19-year-old has made just 23 first team appearances since his debut at the start of last season but has already established himself as the most exciting home-grown prospect in the English third tier.

The technically-gifted playmaker first drew attention last term as he netted twice in twelve League One outings and is attracting significant interest once again, following a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to an ankle injury.

The Independent claim Arsenal and Liverpool are both leading the charge to sign the midfielder, whilst an unnamed Premier League club have already tabled a ‘firm offer’.

There is likely to be a bidding war for Maddison’s services either during the summer or next month’s transfer window – with the youngster expected to be loaned back to the Ricoh Arena outfit for the remainder of the campaign.

Tony Mowbray’s side are currently fourth in League One – five points behind table-toppers Burton Albion.
