According to reports from talkSPORT this afternoon, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants to sign Bayer Leverkusen target man Stefan Kiessling in January, whilst Calcio Mercato claim Manchester United are targeting former Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez.

Both Premier League clubs are struggling for numbers up top at the moment and appear to be eyeing two of Europe’s veteran front-men as potential January solutions.

talkSPORT claim Reds boss Jurgen Klopp wants to bring 31 year-old Kiessling to Anfield amid Daniel Sturridge, Christian Benteke and Danny Ings’ injury woes, having tried to sign him numerous times during his tenure as Borussia Dortmund manager.

The German international measures in at a lofty 6 foot 3 and boasts 150 goals in 384 appearances for the Bay Arena outfit, claiming the Bundesliga’s Golden Boot in 2013. He’s struggled for form this season, however, netting just once in the German top flight.

Meanwhile, Calcio Mercato report that Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial’s inability to consistently provide goals for United has turned Louis van Gaal towards an old ally in Mario Gomez. The 30 year-old netted 113 times in 174 appearances during his four campaigns at Bayern Munich and was brought to the Allianz Arena by the now Red Devils boss in summer 2009.

The German international is currently on loan at Besiktas, where he’s bagged ten goals in 13 appearances, after two underwhelming campaigns at Fiorentina. Although the Turkish outfit have the option to buy, Calcio Mercato allege United could launch a bid in January – tearing up Gomez’s loan agreement in the process.
