Mauro Icardi

According to reports from Calcio Mercato via The Metro, Liverpool are considering a bid for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi.

After bagging 27 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions last season, including a top-scoring haul of 22 in Serie A, the Nerazzurri front-man was linked with a number of Premier League clubs during the summer transfer window – including Chelsea and Manchester United.

The 23 year-old eventually ended speculation by signing a four-year contract in June and two months later was handed the captain’s armband at the San Siro, symbolising the striker and the club’s commitment to each other.

But the Argentina international has struggled for form this season, netting just thrice in ten appearances, and was resultantly dropped for Inter Milan’s 1-0 win over Roma on Saturday – a victory that could prove crucial in this season’s title race and confounded many punters’ betting in Australia.

Roberto Mancini’s decision to bench Icardi could pave the way for a bid from Liverpool amid their strikeforce’s injury crisis, whilst summer suitors Chelsea and fellow admirers Tottenham Hotspur will undoubtedly be on alert following recent events. The Metro claim Inter value the South American at around £25million.
