According to reports from The Telegraph, Real Madrid are ready to offer Memphis Depay an escape route from Old Trafford following an underwhelming start to his Manchester United career.
The Netherlands international, who was nominated for the Young Player of the Tournament award whilst playing under Louis van Gaal at the 2014 World Cup, moved to Old Trafford in May for a reported fee of £25million after finishing the 2014/15 campaign as the Eredivisie’s top scorer.
The 21 year-old started brightly enough with goals against Sunderland, Club Brugge and former employers PSV Eindhoven, but has found himself benched in recent weeks in favour of £36million deadline day arrival Anthony Martial.
The Telegraph, who allege Depay has struggled to settle in Manchester, claim Real Madrid could offer the winger a surprise escape to the Bernabeu. Having signed him on a four-year deal just three months ago, however, the Red Devils are only willing to sell for an eye-watering £64million – £39million more than their original investment.
