According to the club’s official website, Arsenal and Manchester City target Grzegorz Krychowiak has signed a one-year contract extension with Sevilla.

The Poland international’s exceptional form last season earned him place in La Liga’s Team of the Year and helped Sevilla claim a second consecutive Europa League title – consequentially attracting interest from Arsenal throughout the summer transfer window.

Having started the 2015/16 campaign equally brightly, despite his club’s current league standing of eleventh place, the 26 year-old has also emerged on Manchester City’s radar during the last few weeks, with Manuel Pellegrini shortlisting him as a potential signing for summer 2016.

But it appears the 25 year-old is more than happy to stay at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan for the foreseeable future. Sevilla announced a one-year contract extension earlier today, tying down Krychowiak until 2019.

Accordingly, his release clause has moved from £21million to £32million – an affordable sum for the Premier League duo but nonetheless a sign of the midfielder’s commitment to manager Unai Emery.

Back in September, Krychowiak revealed he had turned down summer advances from potential suitors because of Emery’s decision to stay on at Sevilla.

As quoted by FourFourTwo, he told reporters; “Unai’s decision to stay was crucial for me. I wanted to form part of his project and only his, nobody else’s,” the 25-year-old was quoted as telling Przeglad Sportowy.

“If he had left to go to another club it’s probable I would have seriously considered doing the same. Emery is part of my success. He believes in me. We are twin souls, we are a perfect fit, our philosophies are very similar. I have only been at Sevilla for a year but I owe a lot to the manager.”

Sevilla’s website meanwhile, describe Krychowiak as ‘instrumental’ and ‘one of the natural leaders of the team’, whilst pointing out the club boast a 74% unbeaten record with him in the starting Xi.
