Mario Suarez

According to reports from talkSPORT on Thursday, Fiorentina midfielder Mario Suarez is trying to force a move to Liverpool in January.

The defensive midfielder was linked with the Reds and Premier League rivals Arsenal during the summer following five impressive campaigns with Atletico Madrid.

The Spain international registered 178 appearances for the Mattress Makers, winning a Europa League title, a Copa del Rey, a La Liga title, two UEFA Super Cups and a Champions League runner-up medal during his stint at Vincente Calderon.

The 28 year-old went on to join Fiorentina instead, with former Manchester City defender Stefan Savic moving in the opposite direction, but has gone on to make just two starts in Serie A, finding himself benched for the Florence outfit’s last six league fixtures before this weekend.

Reports from last week suggested Liverpool are keen revive their interest in Suarez in the January transfer window and talkSPORT, citing sources from the Italian media, claim the industrious midfielder is now pushing for a move from his end too.

They claim he’s instructed his representative to kick-start negotiations – but a return to La Liga with Sevilla remains an alternative scenario.
