Transfer Blow: Free-scoring Liverpool target only has eyes for La Liga

|

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang

According to reports from BBC Sport this afternoon, Liverpool target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wants a move to La Liga when his spell at Borussia Dortmund comes to an end.

The Gabon international, once dubbed ‘the African Neymar’, has bagged 62 goals in 111 appearances for the Black-Yellows since being signed by Jurgen Klopp, now in charge at Liverpool, in summer 2013.

That includes a career-best 26 goals across all competitions last term and an incredible 13 goals in just 10 Bundesliga outings this season, firing Dortmund to second in the league table.

Amid a striker injury crisis at Anfield, with Daniel Sturridge, Christian Benteke and Danny Ings all currently sidelined, Aubameyang was linked with a potential Klopp reunion on Merseyside earlier this week.

According to BBC Sport, however, the 6 foot 1 forward has essentially ruled out such a scenario by revealing his desire to play in Spain, whilst also insisting he’s content at Westfalenstadion for now.

He told BBC world service; “One day I’ll leave to play in another league. My dream is to play in Spain. After that contract [expiring in 2020] I have this dream to play in Spain. I hope that will happen but when? I don’t know.

“Lots of people think that the Premier League would good for me but my mum is Spanish and I really have that dream to play over there. After that maybe one day the Premier League but for the moment I aim to one day play in Spain.”

Intriguingly, Aubameyang was also linked with La Liga champions Barcelona earlier this week.
