Lazar Markovic

According to reports from the Liverpool Echo this afternoon, Liverpool won’t be able to recall Lazar Markovic from his Fenerbahce loan spell in January.

The Serbian international was billed as one of the most exciting prospects in European football when he moved to Anfield for a £20million fee in summer 2014 but struggled to impress during his debut season and was loaned out to the Turkish side in late August.

Jurgen Klopp is allegedly a big fan of the 21 year-old and was considering recalling him midway through a year-long loan in January, but the Mersey outfit don’t have the right to do so according to the Liverpool Echo – despite Markovic’s representatives previously assuming otherwise.

Meanwhile, the young winger has taken a swipe at former Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers, who was replaced by Klopp earlier this month following an underwhelming start to the season.

As quoted by the Echo, he told Portuguese publication A Bola; “I didn’t have a good relationship with the coach. That was a problem. I played in many positions but didn’t play in mine.”

Markovic arrived on Merseyside as a winger-come-No.10, but found himself more commonly utilised as a wing-back in Rodgers’ 3-4-2-1 formation last season.
