According to reports from The Daily Star this weekend, Newcastle United are weighing up a swoop for former Magpie and current Arsenal misfit Mathieu Debuchy.
The France right-back moved to the Emirates from Newcastle in a £12million deal last summer, following Bacary Sagna’s departure to Manchester City on a free transfer.
He was expected to become the Gunners’ resident No.2 but a spate of injury problems combined with the sudden rise of Spain U21 Hector Bellerin has seen Debuchy make just eleven Premier League appearances since the start of the 2014/15 campaign.
Now understudy to the prodigious 20 year-old and having resultantly missed out on selection in the latest France squad, The Star claim the 26-cap international will ‘review his future in January’ – with former employers Newcastle particularly keen.
The Tyneside outfit have officially made their worst ever start to a Premier League season, claiming three points and suffering five defeats in eight games, so signing a player of Debuchy’s pedigree and experience in January dould be crucial to their survival.
Along with Newcastle United, however, Ligue 1 powerhouses PSG and Monaco are also believed to be interested in signing the 5 foot 10 full-back.
