According to reports from Estadio Deportivo, Arsenal and Manchester City target Grzegorz Krychowiak is set to sign a new contract with Sevilla.
The Poland international’s superlative form last season earned him place in La Liga’s Team of the Year and helped Sevilla claim a second consecutive Europa League title, resultantly attracting interest from Arsenal throughout the summer transfer window.
He’s started the current campaign equally brightly, averaging the second-most interceptions per-match, 6, of any player in the Champions League this season, and is now reportedly on Manchester City’s radar as well – with Manuel Pellegrini viewing the 25 year-old as a potential signing for summer 2016.
According to Estadio Deportivo, however, the transfer efforts of the Premier League duo are set to receive a significant blow with Krychowiak on the verge of signing a new contract at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
The new deal will increase his wages and extend his Sevilla stay until 2020, but perhaps most crucially from Arsenal and City’s perspective will significantly increase his release clause from £21million.
It’s believed the 6 foot 1 midfielder still has a desire to play in the Premier League, but is now giving Sevilla a greater say over his potential transfer fee.
