According to reports from Mirror Football yesterday evening, Manchester United outcast Victor Valdes is open to joining Newcastle United as a replacement for Tim Krul.
The Magpies No.1 was stretchered off during the Netherlands’ Euro 2016 qualifier with Kazakhstan on Saturday and has now been ruled out for the rest of the season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
The club will receive a lucrative compensation settlement and could reportedly spend some of it on bringing Manchester United’s Victor Valdes to St. James’ Park in January.
The Spain international was transfer listed by Louis van Gaal during the summer after allegedly refusing to represent United’s U21 squad and almost joined Besiktas during the final week of the transfer window – so he’s certainly surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
According to Mirror Football, van Gaal has agreed to terminate the 33 year-old’s contract if he agrees not to join a direct Premier League rival – particularly Chelsea and Liverpool, who have both shown an interest in recent weeks – meaning he would allow a move to Tyneside.
Likewise, the British newspaper claim ‘sources close to Valdes refused to rule out a move to Newcastle’, with the three-time Champions League winner focused on playing first team football as soon as possible.
