According to reports from London Evening Standard this afternoon, Queens Park Rangers could sell star striker Charlie Austin in January even if the Championship outfit are challenging for the title.

The 26 year-old fired the west Londoners to the top flight with 17 goals in 31 league appearances during the 2013/14 campaign and continued his superlative form in the Premier League last season, finishing up as the division’s second-top scoring Englishman with 18 goals – after Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane.

That impressive return combined with QPR plummeting back into the Championship saw the former non-leaguer linked with a host of top flight clubs during the summer, including Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City and Newcastle United – according to talkSPORT.

Austin has revealed that he turned down the chance to remain in the Premier League with an unnamed club, stating earlier this week; “I turned down a move [to the Premier League] which wasn’t right for me and my family. I didn’t feel it was right for me to go, so I stayed at QPR.”

But manager Chris Ramsey has revealed that the Loftus Road outfit won’t hesitate to cash in on the £15million-rated striker in January should the right offer come along – even if they’re challenging for the Championship crown.

As quoted by London Evening Standard, he said; “We will see where we are in January and if the success is going the way we want it to go. Everyone has their price. Whatever happens, we have to do what’s best for QPR. If selling Charlie at that time is the right thing for QPR, then I’m sure the owners will make that decision at the time.

“We are in a financial situation that we need to address and Charlie as an individual has a dream of playing at Euro 2016. If Charlie performs as he has been the last few games, then I’m sure a Premier League club of his liking will come in for him.”

QPR are currently fourth in the Championship table, in no small part due to Austin bagging four goals in five league appearances this term.
