2. Thomas Muller

According to reports from The Daily Star this morning, Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller will have to make a formal transfer request if he’s to join Manchester United this summer.

The 25 year-old is one of the most formidable attackers in world football, famed for his work rate, versatility, physicality and netting prowess.

He’s amassed 123 goals in 306 appearances for the Allianz Arena outfit – including two strikes in his first Bundesliga appearance of the season last Friday – and has been instrumental in Germany’s successes at the last two World Cups; picking up the Golden Boot in 2010 and netting five times as Die Mannschaft lifted the title in 2014.

On Tuesday, The Daily Mail reported that Arsenal had made enquiries into the 25 year-old’s availability – along with strike partner Robert Lewandowski – earlier in the summer, with a view to a £50million deal.

But Manchester United are widely considered to be the front-runners in the race to sign Muller and according to sources in Germany, launched a £60million bid earlier this week.

However, The Daily Star claim Bayern are only likely to accept a bid if the 6 foot 1 forward directly asks to leave the club.

They quote a United source as saying; “He is the one the club wants more than anyone else. With him in the side, United could genuinely challenge for major honours again and they are willing to break the bank to get him. But he will have to force the issue himself and make it clear he wants to leave Bayern. It is all down to him now.”

It comes after Bavarians executive Karl-Heinze Rummenigge told supporters he “will not let another player leave for Manchester United” following their £10million swoop of Bastian Schweinsteiger.

The British tabloid also claim United intend to make Muller one of the best-paid players in the Premier League with a £250k per-week contract.
