Toni Kroos

According to reports from The Express this morning, Liverpool and Manchester United are both chasing the signature of Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos.

The 25 year-old is widely regarded as one of the top central midfielders in world football, having featured prominently in the Bayern Munich side that won the 2013 Champions League title and the Germany line-up who claimed last summer’s World Cup.

He swapped the Allianz Arena for the Bernabeu immediately after Die Mannschaft’s triumph at Brazil 2014, following a lengthy contract dispute with the German giants.

But according to The Express, who cite Inside Spanish Football, Kroos is prepared to leave Real Madrid after just a year in the Spanish capital. There are also concerns regarding whether he can be successful in an engine room alongside equally lightweight playmaker Luka Modric.

The British tabloid claim PSG are the front runners in the race for the 58-cap international’s signature – viewing him as the ideal replacement for Thiago Motta, who looks set to leave Parc de Princes in the coming weeks with just a year left on his contract.

They also document interest from Liverpool and Manchester United; insinuating the Premier League duo could make rival approaches for the midfielder.

But at this stage, the chances of Los Blancos selling Kroos after just a single campaign seem relatively slim.
