Charles Aranguiz

According to reports from The Express this morning, Internacional midfielder Charles Aranguiz has snubbed the chance to move to the Premier League with Leicester City.

The 5 foot 7 midfielder featured prominently in the Chile side that lifted the 2015 Copa America title last month, registering two goals, one assist and six appearances throughout the tournament as well as producing a Man of the Match display in the final against Argentina.

A number of European clubs have been monitoring the 26 year-old’s progress since the turn of 2015. Amid links to Arsenal, Aranguiz described an Emirates switch as a ‘dream move’ in March, whilst reports last month suggested he’d agreed to join Chelsea.

On Saturday, it was revealed Leicester City had seen a £10.5million bid accepted for the 40-cap international – a club-record fee for the King Power Stadium outfit.

But according to The Express, Aranguiz has snubbed interest from the Foxes by revealing his desire to join Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen instead.

“The president told me there’s a bid from Leicester and it’s good for the club,” he said, as quoted by Globo.

“But for me, Leverkusen is important. I am not talking about money. Between Leverkusen and Leicester, the best is Leverkusen; they’re a bigger team. I want to go.

“I am 26 years old and at a stage where I need to go a step further,” he added.
