Hugo Lloris

According to reports from The Independent this morning, a fractured wrist could prevent Manchester United signing Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris this summer.

The France international has continually demonstrated his world-class shot-stopping abilities since arriving at White Hart Lane from Lyon in summer 2012, last season making the most saves, 107, of any goalkeeper in the Premier League’s top six.

He’s been mooted as a prime target for PSG and Manchester United in recent months, with the Premier League outfit eyeing the 28 year-old as an ideal replacement for Real Madrid-bound PFA Player of the Year nominee David De Gea.

Despite signing a five-year contract extension at White Hart Lane last summer, Lloris has admitted that he wants to be playing Champions League football to solidify his role as captain of the France national team.

Manchester United can certainly offer him that and Old Trafford switch has become considerably more likely since the departure of former Real Madrid No.1 Iker Casillas to FC Porto over the weekend.

But according to The Independent, an injury could scupper the much-speculated deal. Spurs have confirmed the 6 foot 2 shot-stopper fractured his wrist during the close season and is therefore likely to miss the start of the 2015/16 campaign.

The club’s website said; “[Lloris] will continue to work alongside the first team squad to build up his fitness in a bid to be ready for the start of the season. Our medical team will continue to monitor his rehabilitation and progress during pre-season.”

One alternative Manchester United could turn do is Netherlands international Jasper Cillessen, who claimed four clean sheets under Louis van Gaal’s leadership at last summer’s World Cup. He was linked with a £25million Old Trafford switch in May.
