According to reports from The Express this afternoon, Benfica star Nicolas Gaitan has dismissed rumours claiming he’s agreed to join Manchester United.
The Argentina international is widely regarded as one of the biggest talents outside of Europe’s five leading top flights, having played a vital role in Benfica claiming back-to-back Primeira Liga titles and reaching consecutive Europa Leage finals in the last three seasons.
Chelsea scouts were allegedly running the rule over the attacking midfielder towards the end of last season, whilst a series of reports have suggested he’s a priority target for Manchester United. He’s also emerged as a potential target for Atletico Madrid and Liverpool.
In May, it was claimed Gaitan’s representatives had arrived in London to thrash out a deal with the Red Devils, whilst The Express declared in June that he’d agreed an Old Trafford move at the cost of £22million.
The 27 year-old, however, has now insisted the reports are false. Speaking on his future, Gaitan recently told journalists; “I have a contract with Benfica and will stay at Benfica, of course.”
The winger’s current deal with the Portuguese outfit doesn’t expire until 2018.
