Nabil Bentaleb

According to reports from The Sun this morning, Liverpool have made the first significant move in the race to sign Tottenham starlet Nabil Bentaleb.

The Algeria international broke into Spurs’ starting Xi under Tim Sherwood last season and has since gone on to make 55 appearances in all competitions for the north Londoners, including 41 outings in the Premier League.

The 20 year-old has impressed in midfield alongside Ryan Mason this season, averaging 2.3 tackles and 2.5 interceptions per match whilst recording a pass completion rate of 87%.

As This Is Futbol revealed last week, Arsenal, Juventus and PSG are all believed to be targeting Bentaleb, who has been surprisingly vocal about his disappointment in not yet agreeing a new contract at White Hart Lane.

“I give everything on the pitch,” he said. “I’ve been working really hard and it’s normal for me to want to get rewarded. We’ve been negotiating for nearly nine months now, since September, and it’s getting really long and, of course, I’m getting a little bit tired of it.”

But reports from The Sun claim Liverpool are now in pole position to sign the 6 foot 2 midfielder, having opened talks with Spurs over a £10million deal.

They report Rodgers as ‘desperate’ to sign Bentaleb, with the Anfield gaffer viewing him as the perfect midfield partner to new signing James Milner.

It is better for any club in football to make signings for new players to refresh the old ones, especially when the club’s performance is poor. But when i look at a club like Liverpool, they have the money to buy quality players. but what suprizes me is that, instead of signing one or two world class, high profile players, they waste all the money on players who won’t contribute anything to the club. How can you sign a player who ends up on a bench for the rest of the season and you think you are hunting for a trophy?
