Right Back - Nathaniel Clyne

According to reports from The Express this afternoon, Tottenham have entered the race to sign Southampton full-back Nathaniel Clyne.

The 23 year-old has been in sensational form this term, averaging the sixth-most tackles per-match, 3.3, of any Premier League player as part of a Saints defence boasting the healthiest goals conceded column in the division.

That’s seen Clyne ascend to starting status within the England fold, notching up four caps since his debut in November, and also attract interest from some of the Premier League’s top clubs. As This Is Futbol revealed last month, Chelsea and Manchester United are both believed to be preparing £17million bids for the former Crystal Palace youngster.

Southampton remain adamant Clyne will agree a new contract in the coming weeks, with his current deal set to expire in 2016 – as This Is Futbol revealed in April.

But reported interest from Tottenham could further complicate the situation. Spurs want to provide competition for resident No.2 Kyle Walker next season and manager Mauricio Pochettino, whom the young right-back excelled under at St. Mary’s last season, gives them a unique advantage in the race for Clyne’s signature.
