Zlatan Ibrahimovic

According to reports from The Express yesterday morning, Chelsea are considering a shock summer bid for PSG striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Blues look set to part with iconic front-man Didier Drogba upon the expiration of his contract this summer and the Sweden international would be a worthy replacement. He’s widely regarded as the greatest striker of his generation and has won twelve straight domestic titles since 2003 – in a career spanning the Eredivisie, Serie A, La Liga and Ligue 1.

The former Inter Milan and Barcelona star has netted 30 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions this season, but could find himself forced out of Parc de Princes over the next few months.

A single term remains on the 33 year-old’s contract and the Ligue 1 champions are well aware £55million signing Edinson Cavani will demand to leave for Juventus this summer unless he’s Ibrahimovic’s lone front-man role in the starting XI.

According to The Express, Jose Mourinho is keen to reunite with the 6 foot 5 striker, who he claimed a Serie A title with as Inter Milan manager during the 2008/09 campaign.

But Liverpool are also believed plotting a summer swoop of the 2013 Puskas award winner according to reports from The Metro last month. They’re planning a major reshuffle of their strike-force in the coming transfer window, following a campaign in which Daniel Sturridge, Rickie Lambert, Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini have netted just eight Premier League goals between them.

How much either club would be willing to pay for the nine-time Swedish Footballer of the Year remains to be seen.

I know he has a good relationship with José but I’d rather we avoided this one. Expensive, egotistical, and will surely not react well to being a second choice behind Costa. Seems like he wouldn’t score at all against the top 4 but might score 4 in a game against a team like Villa.
