De Jong (Milan)

According to reports from The Metro in the early hours of this morning, Manchester United have offered AC Milan’s Nigel de Jong a £4million-per-year deal.

The Dutch enforcer’s San Siro contract is coming to an end this summer, and amid seemingly little chance of penning extended terms, the Red Devils are keen to snap him up on a free transfer in the coming off-season – as This Is Futbol informed you earlier this week. They’ve been allowed to formally discuss bosman moves with all foreign players since the close of the January window.

De Jong once spent three seasons with noisy neighbours Manchester City, winning the Premier League with them at the end of the 2011/12 campaign before jetting off to Milan that summer.

But van Gaal knows the 30 year-old well via the Oranje set up; he boasts 80 caps for the Netherlands, including an appearance in the 2010 World Cup final, and served under LVG in Brazil last summer.

The rumoured deal is yet to be concluded, but with suspiciously few alternative suitors on the market, there isn’t much standing in its way.
