According to reports from The Daily Mail this afternoon, England international Nathaniel Clye is continuing to stall on a contract extension at Southampton.
The 24 year-old has been in sensational form this season, bagging two goals in 30 Premier League appearances as part of a Saints defence that boasts the healthiest goals conceded record in the top flight.
He’s also averaged an impressive 3.5 tackles per match – the fifth-best return of any Premier League player.
That’s seen him emerge as Roy Hodgson’s preferred choice of No.2 within the Three Lions fold and also generated interest from a number of top English clubs – particularly Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.
With his current deal set to expire in 2016, all three are believed to be eyeing a summer bid – and revelations today suggest Clyne’s move to the Premier League’s summit is becoming increasingly likely.
Although he’s currently in negotiations to extend his St. Mary’s contract, with the Saints offering a £45k per-week deal, the fact they’ve dragged on so long already suggests Southampton will be forced to sell this summer – rather than lose Clyne for nothing in a year’s time.
