Andre Gomes

As reported by The Express yesterday evening, Manchester United target Andre Gomes has denied rumours that he’s agreed to move to Chelsea at the end of the season.

The 21 year-old midfielder has been in fantastic form this season, netting four goals in 25 La Liga appearances for Valencia after joining them on loan from Benfica in the summer and then signing for the Mestalla outfit permanently – along with team-mate Rodrigo – in January.

And those displays in the Spanish top flight have generated significant interest in the Premier League, with Man United and Chelsea gaffers Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho reportedly prepared to pay around £36million to sign the Portugual international this summer – despite only officially joining Valencia a matter of months ago.

Gomes, however, has now refuted these claims. “I’m not worried about what the future holds. I am convinced that I will stay in Valencia because I am very happy here,” he said.

“I just think about spending the next season in Spain. Chelsea? I do not know anything and also my agent is not aware of any opportunity,” he added.

Whether this forces Chelsea and Manchester United to consider other midfield targets instead – the former club were linked to Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson earler this week for example, as reported by us at This Is Futbol – remains to be seen.
