Although Chelsea are almost certain to claim this year’s Premier League title, manager Jose Mourinho appears hell-bent on improving his squad over the summer.

Today , the west London club have been linked with one of the centre-backs for the Brazil national team, who would presumably step in for the not-so-dependable Gary Cahill.

According to this Telegraph report, the defender in question is Atletico Madrid’s Miranda.

He was long overlooked by the Selecao set-up until Dunga’s recent appointment, but at club level has proved himself to be one of the best centre-backs in Europe over the last few years, winning a Europa League, a Copa del Rey and a La Liga title with the Vincente Calderon side.

Now 30 years of age with just one season remaining on his current contract, Blues Technical Director Michael Emenalo is keen to land a cut-price deal – having already developed a working relationship with Atletico after signing Filipe Luis and Diego Costa last summer.

But Miranda’s release clause is still set at £24million and – as reported by talkSPORT – they demanded every penny from Manchester United last summer.
